About me

Bright Spark Media was set up in 2005 by me, Cora Lydon, a freelance journalist and editor based in Suffolk.

My career in publishing started off at a local farming magazine. After seven glamorous months filled with prize pigs, muddy boots and tractors I found myself working within the magazine division of the local, Archant-owned newspaper offices. Within my first few weeks I was making the news myself in unexpected ways when I managed to drive the boss’s car into a moving bus. Despite this I remained there for 18 months. After dabbling in a few different areas (number crunching at a local university, managing an innovation firm, a brief spell as a freelance) I landed my dream job on a national healthy lifestyle title. Three years later I came to the decision I’d rather be the boss, than answer to one and leapt into the world of freelance journalism – I’ve never looked back.

Since starting out in the publishing industry in 2000 I’ve built up a varied portfolio of work for magazines, websites and corporate clients. I’m able to add real value to the titles I write for; coming up with innovative feature ideas, producing captivating, relevant and interesting copy and meeting tight deadlines and briefs.

I’ve also edited a variety of magazines covering topics from personal assistants and interiors to education and building developments. Working with small publishers, often as the only editorial member of staff, has meant a crash course in other areas of publishing and excellent experience in a range of skills such as picture research, budget handling, commissioning, sub editing and proof reading.

I can also turn my hand to producing sparkling copy for corporate and promotional literature, websites and brochures to help raise companies' profiles. I’m a published author of several books on topics including going green, healthy eating for children and stress.

In short, I love to write – whether it’s a piece on an extreme detox, how EQ can boost self esteem, or what happens when you fall in love with the man you divorced.
